Chamber to Hold Annual Meeting, Former FEMA Director to Give Keynote
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce will host its 2006 Annual Meeting January 25 from 11:30am to 1:30pm.at the Carolina Club on the UNC campus.
Over 450 of the Chamber's members, local and state elected officials, and regional business leaders attend the Annual Meeting to hear the keynote speaker and celebrate the Chamber's successes in 2005.
This year's keynote speaker will be James Lee Witt, former Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
James Lee Witt has over 25 years of disaster management experience, culminating in his appointment as the Director of FEMA, where he served from 1993-2001. James Lee Witt is currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of James Lee Witt Associates, LLC providing disaster recovery and mitigation management services to state and local governments, educational institutions, the international community and corporations.
Previous Annual Meeting speakers include state North Carolina Senate President Pro Tempore Marc Basnight in 2002, UNC at Chapel Hill Chancellor James Moeser (filling in for Governor Michael Easley) in 2003, Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue in 2004, and Bob Greczyn, President and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina in 2005.
The Annual Meeting program will also include a look at Chamber 2005 successes and a look ahead to our vision for 2006. Business of the year awards will also be given in the small, midsize and large business category. The Duke Power Citizenship and Service award will also be given to an individual with a longstanding history of leadership, volunteerism and involvement in our community. The Chamber will also give the Ambassador of the Year Award for 2005.
