Management of Disaster Response and Recovery Operations and Long-Term Recovery Planning
September 2004 – June 2005
James Lee Witt Associates (JLWA) assisted the Government of the Cayman Islands in their recovery operations during the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, which devastated the islands in September 2004. The JLWA team organized local and overseas resources around critical functional areas, including debris removal, mass care, housing, health, utility infrastructure and securing additional supplies and resources needed to expedite the recovery process.
In addition to addressing immediate disaster needs, JLWA identified short- and long-term needs of low-to-moderate income residents of the Caymans, some of the hardest hit by Hurricane Ivan. JLWA analyzed housing concerns, developed a sustainable re-building practices plan and addressed issues preventing citizens from getting their lives back to normal.
JLWA evaluated and developed a crisis communications plan and alert and notification protocols to address future threats to the Cayman Islands. Additionally, JLWA worked closely with the business community to ensure they received the appropriate resources for a speedy economic recovery.
