September is National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month and ProtectingAmerica.org, the nation's largest coalition of first responders, insurers, businesses and individuals concerned about catastrophe preparation and protection, has partnered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Ready Campaign to help educate the public about the importance of emergency preparedness. ProtectingAmerica.org is helping local residents prepare by offering free emergency radios to families and individuals who visit ProtectingAmerica.org's web site. Along with food, water, a can opener and other household items, battery operated FM radios are a critical ingredient to a complete emergency kit according to catastrophe response experts.
To receive a radio, simply log on and register at www.ProtectingAmerica.org.
"While we urge everyone to be prepared for catastrophe 365 days a year, public recognition of September as National Preparedness Month greatly supports our efforts and creates dialogue on ways to ensure that every American is ready for the unthinkable," said Admiral James Loy, ProtectingAmerica.org co-chair and former deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
To learn more about how to get prepared, visit the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Ready Campaign website at www.ready.gov, and ProtectingAmerica.org at www.ProtectingAmerica.org. ProtectingAmerica.org was formed in 2005 and is a non-profit organization consisting of emergency management officials, first responders, disaster relief experts, insurers and others. Its members include the American Red Cross, the International Association of Fire Fighters, more than 335 other organizations and businesses and more than 15,000 individuals from across the nation.
